Encounter Between Fragility and Strength
The encounter between fragility and strength is a recurring theme in my practice. With this new series I use weaving and paper making, I’m exploring how seemingly opposing qualities can exist together and support one another. A single linen thread appears delicate, yet when woven it becomes part of a strong, enduring structure. Likewise, wet paper pulp transforms from a fluid material into a textured, resilient surface as it dries.
By combining these two craft processes, I investigate intimacy as a spatial and material condition. Wet paper is draped over woven textiles, allowing the materials to merge under pressure. As they dry, new testures emerge that reveal relationships between closeness and distance, dependence and autonomy, strength and vulnerability.
This ongoing research has resulted in the 1st series of new works, each with its own rhythm, texture, and spatial presence. Together they reflect my continuing exploration of connection, transformation, resilience, and the balance between fragility and strength.
